Your Voice in Fountain Inn

Welcome to the official campaign website for Bill Smith, your dedicated and passionate candidate for Fountain Inn City Council. Our city is at a critical juncture, and it’s time for fresh ideas, strong leadership, and a commitment to managing and protecting our city through growth. Together, we can shape a brighter future for our community.

Bill Smith

I am a South Carolina native who loves his state and country. I have committed my life to action and involvement in serving others. I’ve spent the past 35+ years working in corporate America leading people and organizations and am currently with Brother International Corporation and have held many leadership roles over the past 23 years.

My leadership skills were developed at a young age by my parents and family who instilled a strong work ethic, Christian beliefs, and a responsibility to help others in need. The greatest example was my grandmother who owned and operated a country store in Leesville, SC. Mamaw feed the community and when she passed, she had hundreds of thousands of dollars that she had extended credit to people in the community. Mamaw was my living example of what service was all about.

My family moved to Greenville in 1982. After graduating from Bob Jones Academy, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves while attending Bob Jones University. I was mobilized to active duty with the Marine Corps for Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. My time serving in the United States Marine Corps has instilled in me the values of honor, integrity, and resiliency and has deepened my passion for service to not only my country but my community as well. I have a unique perspective on leadership and teamwork, which I believe are essential for effective governance. My military service has taught me the importance of discipline and the value of hard work, qualities I will bring to the City Council to ensure the best possible future for our community.

I served on the Board of Governors at Holly Tree Country Club as Vice President and President. I lead an effort to collect toys for Toys for Tots and the Fountain Inn Police Department during the holidays, including an event hosted by my family and friends which helps to secure over 1,000 toys and needed items each year to be distributed to families in need.

I am both a volunteer and board member for Make-A-Wish SC. We were fortunate to have granted 255 wishes last year in South Carolina including some kids in our Fountain Inn community. I am also involved in Base Camp Kids Cancer Foundation which supports kids and their families during treatments and provides a holiday event twice a year to help these families through some of the most difficult times.

My Vision

Community means family. It means looking out for one another, supporting our neighbors in times of need, and celebrating our successes together. It's the sense of belonging and the knowledge that we are all in this together, striving for a better life for ourselves and future generations. Community is where we build our dreams, and I am committed to making our community stronger and more inclusive for everyone. I have witnessed the growth and challenges that our city has faced more recently.

This is why I am running for City Council – to be a strong voice for the residents of Fountain Inn, ensure we have responsible growth. I am interested in a monthly forum for citizens to speak to leaders and a focus on community engagement where committees are expanded with diverse members.

My promise is that any compensation received while serving as a member of Fountain Inn City Council will be donated to Fountain Inn’s Miracle League.

If elected to City Council, I pledge to be a tireless advocate for your needs and concerns.
